Godsgrave (The Nevernight Chronicles #2) by Jay Kristoff - Review

Pages - 464
Format - Kindle

A ruthless young assassin continues her journey for revenge in this new epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff.

Conquer your fear, conquer the world

Mia Corvere, destroyer of empires, has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church ministry do not believe she has earned it.

Her position is precarious, and she's still no closer to exacting revenge for the brutal death of her family. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia begins to suspect the motives of the Red Church itself.

When it is announced that Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself into slavery for a chance to fulfill the promise she made on the day she lost everything.

Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold, secrets are revealed and the body count rises within the collegium walls, Mia will be forced to choose between her loyalties and her revenge.

This story unlike the first book is written just from the present. I can't decide if it was more fast paced than Nevernight, or whether it was just because by the end of the first book your well invested in the characters etc.

We have not so many of the original characters in instalment but the characters we meet are all relevant to the plot, with a few surprises along the way.

Again like the first instalment the only bad point of this book is I had to wait on the next & unfortunately final instalment of this fantastic series.

I loved the way that this book was different from the first. The setting was a few different places & the task & challenges Mia was faced with were very different & definitely pushed her to the limit. Which made her even more bad ass & made me fall in love with her even more, resulting in my first ever crush on a girl character! I even loved the smutty bits which I don't usually especially when written by a man but Jay got it spot on, not too much detail but enough to get your juices flowing shall we say lol.

So overall this book is just as good if not marginally better than the first & this series is my top series ever! I just can't recommend this series enough to everyone.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Until next time byeeeee!
